DISCOVER HEIDELBERG

Heidelberg is considered one of the most beautiful and atmospheric cities in Europe. Set on the Neckar River and surrounded by green hills, the city combines history, culture and a relaxed international atmosphere.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once described Heidelberg as having “something ideal” about it – and this feeling is still easy to understand today.

Under the patronage of the Mayor of Heidelberg

The Tango Summer Festival Heidelberg is held under the patronage of Professor Dr. Eckart Würzner, Mayor of the City of Heidelberg.

This patronage highlights the festival’s connection to Heidelberg and its cultural life. It also reflects the growing international visibility of the festival as a meeting point for tango dancers from around the world.

A city open to the world

Heidelberg welcomes visitors from all over the world every year. With its international university, vibrant cultural life and many English-speaking residents and guests, the city feels open, friendly and easy to navigate.

For festival participants, Heidelberg offers a rare combination: historic surroundings, short distances, a lively old town and beautiful places to relax between milongas.

History, nature and atmosphere

Heidelberg is one of the few major German cities that was largely spared destruction during World War II. Its famous castle ruins date back to the 13th century, and Heidelberg University, founded in 1386, is the oldest university in Germany.

Located in one of Germany’s mildest regions, Heidelberg also offers green hills, river views and many places to enjoy the city outdoors.

Short distances, beautiful views

Distances are short in Heidelberg. Many of the most important sights can be reached on foot.

During the festival, you will experience tango in special settings with views of the Old Town, the Castle and the surrounding landscape. Before or after the milongas, you can spend time on the Neckarwiese, visit Heidelberg Castle, take a walk along the famous Philosophenweg or enjoy cafés near the Old Bridge.
